Current Racial News by: Ihsana Daye

So during the civil rights movement black people started to stand up and say we don't like how we are being treated. They started marching and protesting for their rights, and trying to get rid of the Jim Crow laws. They also had leaders like Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, and Rosa Parks. And also during this time hate groups like the Black Panthers who acted in violence, because they were tired of being pushed around by other races so they felt violence was the best way to handle it.

Currently what Is happening Is that Donald Trump is being very offensive to Hispanic people and saying that he wanted the border wall to be taller so that it could with stand immigration, and reinforcing stereotypes about Mexicans. I feel like he was wrong for what he said but also he does have freedom of speech, and he Is free to say what he feels. However It was not appropriate to say about another race, this is just like what Donald Trumps "people", were doing to African-Americans for hundreds of years. What Donald said cant be reversed and if he wants to hate on other races he can do that he has a freedom of speech but i think its just best that he keeps his negative thoughts and words to himself.

So lately everyone has been shaken up by the whole terrorist attacks from Isis and now everyone thinks that anyone who is from Syria is definitely a terrorist hands down, no doubt about it. But really they are just assuming that if your Middle-Eastern your an Isis member and your a terrorist and some countries wont even accept Syrian refugees because there may be a chance that they are a terrorist. http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/16/world/paris-attacks-syrian-refugees-backlash/. I feel that not all Syrian people are terrorist and they should have a little heart.

I while back on Duke campus a noose was found and that shook up everyone and they were thinking that Duke students are racist, and they don't like African-Americans. And pretty much they assumed that this was aimed at black people, because its a noose in a tree and they think this is a reference to slavery and how blacks were treated brutally and hanged from trees. I honestly think that maybe it was not a reference to slavery and was made for fun or whatever it was made for, not everything and everyone is out to get African-Americans, because Duke is a white majority, and coincidentally there is a low majority of African-American. I just feel like we need to move forward and stop thinking about the past and think about the future, I kind of feel like African-American are taking things to seriously when it probably was not aimed at them in the first place. I'm not taking the students side It looks bad, like it looks like you were making a racial reference which could have been a coincidence. Maybe next time he should think about his actions before he does It. http://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/education/article20032041.html
