blog entry number 5

I think that this article http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/cincinnati-police-officer-charged-murder-fatally-shooting-black-man-the-head shows the oppression of black people and talks about a similar situation like the one in To Kill A Mockingbird. What happened was that a man by the name of DeBose was being pulled over for not having a front license plate. At first, they were having a calm verbal exchange, and then the officer asked him to take of his seat belt, and when he protested the officer got violent with him and reached into the car and shot him in the head. This was wrong because the man was unarmed and was clearly no danger to the officer. That it was just a routine pull over and it turned violent, and the officer shot the man for almost no reason.
What should have happened was that if the officer REALLY couldn't handle him (which he could have easily) then he should have tried to use his pepper spray, or if it got really bad then he should have used his taser, and his gun should be last resort, only if his life is actually in danger. He should have just gave him a ticket, citation, or even just take him into custody instead of getting physical with him and shooting him in the head.
This is similar to what happened to Tom Robinson in To Kill A Mockingbird when he was accused of raping a teenager by the name of Mayella even though he was innocent, and was found guilty more than likely because he was black, and DeBose was also killed for almost no reason and was killed more than likely because of prejudice views towards him. They were both innocent people, and were killed for little or no reason.
