Blog #3 - Go Set a Watchman

"A diploma meant more to Henry than to most of his friends. It was all right for some of them to be expelled; in a pinch, they could go off to a boarding school."

This quote isn't contradictory to anything that Henry said, but another quote from Henry that made Jean-Louise really think about and realize her entitlement was,

"Jean Louise, I've had to scratch since I was a kid for the things you and Jem took for granted. I've never had some of the things you take for granted and I never will. All I have to fall back on is myself."

Since Henry was lower class, Education was much more important to him than some of his friends because he felt like he needed to earn his place in society. Because he is part of the lower class in society, he's seen sometime as the saying, 'easy come, easy go,' meaning that the could be kicked out and gone easily. People look down upon people lower then them because they feel better than them. There are a lot of stereotypes about people with less money like that they aren't as smart or hardworking as people with more money. These types of stereotypes easily lead to a lot of oppression not only directly through them not being given as many opportunities, but a also in self esteem and motivation to do well and succeed. People should let go of these stereotypes and look at all people as equally great and able to do well in their own ways if given the opportunities.
